FSU's Martin 'lucky' to be alive

Mike Martin was sore and shaken but so extremely thankful.

"There were angels in my car," Martin said. "I am lucky. I thank God I am still alive."

Florida State's veteran baseball coach escaped serious injuries as he was involved in an accident on Thomasville Road en route to work Wednesday morning.

Martin, 70, entering his 36th season at FSU and the third all time winningest coach in NCAA Division I college baseball history, was transported by ambulance to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital and released early Wednesday afternoon.

One of the first persons to arrive at the accident scene was FSU football coach Jimbo Fisher, who was also en route to work.

The Martins said the King Cab Truck had initially been struck in the rear bumper by a vehicle in a median crossover, causing the truck's driver to lose control and cross the median into Martin.

The other drive was also transported by ambulance to TMH. His injuries were believed to be non life threatening.
